Tips For Home Interior Design

I remember it like it was yesterday 每 the day I moved into my first home. Sure, I had lived on my own before, but in my apartment I could just hang a few pictures. I couldn*t really make my space my own. But in my house, I could do anything. Each room was a blank canvas ready to be transformed. Your home is the same way. And with a few home interior design tips, your space can be transformed into the home of your dreams.

Planning The Interior Design of Your Home

The first step to interior design for your home is to plan. You know the old saying ※measure twice, cut once§? Well, it definitely holds true when decorating. Measure your space to determine how much room you have to work with. Next, think of the mood you want to create in each room, and what each room will be used for. For example, you might want to create a romantic feel in your bedroom, or the feel of a comfortable coffee house in your living room. How you design your space is dependent on what the room will be used for. Also take into consideration the furniture in each room (whether you are going to use furniture you already own or purchase new furniture) and where to place it in the rooms. A lot of designers recommend you draw out a plan before you start moving items.

Colors And Textures

Any home interior designer knows that the color sets the mood for the room. Choose colors that you like, and will match with the flow of your house (you don*t want your serene blue living room leading into a bright red recreation room!). Most hardware and paint stores have paint chips that are already coordinated 每 you can pick a color group and use them throughout your house. Many manufacturers have also started to make paint samples 每 small containers of paint that you can use to try out the color in the actual space. This is a great idea, and will allow you to see both how the color will look on the wall and what it looks like in different types of light. Textures are also an important part of interior design for the home. Choose fabrics that contribute to the mood you are trying to set in each room. Area rugs are also good for helping to set the mood, and are functional as well. They also are one of the quickest changes (with a big impact) you can make to a room.
