Your children are growing up, and as such the time has come to change their nursery into a more ¡°grown-up¡± room. This interior design project is not only a rite of passage, but it is also an opportunity for you to spend some quality time with your children.
About Interior Design Projects
The first thing that you need to do before you start on your children¡¯s room interior design project is to have a meeting with your children and discuss what it is that each child wants in is or her room. Have the child make a list, and discuss each item one by one, figuring out what can be included and what cannot be included.
The next step in this interior design project is to discuss what color the rooms should be. The color should ideally match whatever items have been agreed on for the room. Once this has been discussed, it is time to do some shopping!
Begin by ordering any items that you think might take a while to be shipped to you for the interior design project, such as new beds and furniture. Take a day and have the kids come with you to the furniture store. This way, they can se what they like, and you can order it so that the rest of the room will be ready for these new furniture additions.
Which leads you to the next step in the children¡¯s room interior design project: painting. Take the children to your local paint store and have them choose swatches of paint colors that they like. Go home and see how the paint colors will look on their walls. Once the colors have been chosen, you can then move on to the actual painting.
Make sure the rooms are cleared of any damageable materials before you start painting. Also, make sure the children are properly attired in old clothes that can get messy if necessary. It is also a god idea to place a tarp over the flooring. Let the children paint a wall together (you can go back later and make any corrections if necessary) while you paint the harder to reach areas.
Once the paining is done, the next thing that you will need to do is perhaps the easiest part of the interior design project: wait. You will need to wait for the paint in the room to dry, as well as the furniture to arrive. Make sure that the children have somewhere else to sleep during this time as well, since you do not want them breathing in the paint fumes.
Several days later, you should have everything ready. Move the furniture to wear the children want it. Then, make sure that everything is all set and that the children are happy with the results. Not only can this interior design project be a fun way to spend time with your children, but the children can then look at their rooms and know that they had a significant part in the design process.
