My Husband Fried His Brain While Installing Our Hot Tub, Wiring Included

It was a mild fall morning, and the crisp air was just chilly enough for me to shiver. I didn’t mind the cold, I love autumn. My husband, on the other hand, despises even the word cold. He would rather live in a volcano than in the snow. This particular morning he decided that he lived long enough, and suffered enough cold to have deserved a hot tub. He told me so.
Self Installment Turns To Ashes
Not only does my husband have an aversion to the cold, he also has an aversion for spending too much money. No, he doesn’t mind forking out the dough needed to buy the hot tub, he is just a cheap skate when it comes to hiring someone to put it in for him. He decided to install his new hot tub all by himself.
He bought an above ground hot tub that he put in the sun room just off the kitchen. It was easy enough to find a level place that would hold the weight. It was easy enough to choose and install a filter, it was easy enough to piece together the pump, it was easy enough to attach the necessary hoses to the houses water system in order to get water, but when it came to wiring the hot tub, he fell short.
My husband is by no means, an electrician. He is a Literature Professor at the local college. He knows all about Byron and Shelley, but nothing about AC/DC and amps. To make a long story shorter, he got the shock of his life and ended up in the emergency room. Why he wanted to do the hot tub wiring all by himself is easy to explain. He is a man. He believes that anything any other man can do, he can do it too. There is no actual logic in that thought, but I wasn’t going to keep him from tinkering with the hot tub wiring if it was going to make him feel more like a man.
Although, I don’t know how laying in a hospital bed with paper for clothes makes him feel like more of a man.
Later, after we returned home to an unfinished hot tub installation, he finally admitted to me that he thought he could do it. He though he could do all the hot tub wiring himself. He figured that since he was a master at plugging things in, hot tub wiring shouldn’t be too difficult. He was wrong of course, and now he knows it so I am not going to rub it in his face. I wanted to but I didn’t. I am a loving, patient wife.
