No matter how good you treat your spa, there may come a time when you will find yourself in need of a hot tub repair. If you are mechanically inclined you may be able to affect repairs on your own, but for those mechanically challenged, a professional may need to be called in.

For breaks or cracks in the tub itself, a fiberglass repair kit can be picked up in most home stores or auto repair shops. Before conducting this hot tub repair you will need to drain the tub and thoroughly clean the area of all oils, dirt and waxes that may be built up around the area to be repaired. Be sure to allow appropriate drying time or you will be doing it again.

If you are going to have a hot tub, you will want to have a ampmeter and a multimeter on hand for most other types of hot tub repair. There are a few things that are obvious but other problems may be more difficult to determine.

Fix Problems Early To Keep From Getting Worse

For example, the hot tub does nothing, no lights, no motor sound or any movement of any type, this is a sign that a hot tub repair may be needed. The first thing to look at is any fuse that may be on the line. Newly installed units will probably have a breaker. If it isn’t flipped to the off position, you will need to check the input wiring and the high limit switch.

If the blower on your unit isn’t working you may need a hot tub repair involving the blower motor or the blower air switch, If you have any qualms about working with electricity in repairing or replacing parts, you will want them done by a professional. Remember, you are working with electricity which is installed very near water and can be very dangerous, if not deadly if done incorrectly.

If your water pump hums and no water is being injected into the pool you will need a new pump. If the spa leaks, you can usually find the source without too much difficulty and unless the leak is in a position to where it’s extremely difficult to reach you can probably affect this hot tub repair on your own.

Proper maintenance and a little common sense should keep your spa in good condition for a long time. However, over time a hot tub repair will be necessary and the choice is doing it yourself or hiring a professional.
